Buffalo Hydraulic - Some of Our Projects
NASA WORLD RECORD LIFTING/WEIGHING PROJECT
Buffalo Hydraulic has been awarded a contract to design and build a jacking system that would provide 21 jacking points and be capable of lifting and documenting the weight of the RSS. The load was estimated to be between 5,000,000 & 8,000,000 lbs.
With a designed capacity of 9,000,000 lbs. over 21 lifting points, our system lifted, documented and recorded a total weight of Launch Pad #39A @5,280,000 lbs. and 5,340,000 lbs. for Launch Pad #39B. During both lifts, a level accuracy of 0.020” over all points was maintained!
Our project has now been recognized as a Guinness World Record as "The Heaviest Object Ever Weighed"
From NASA's Kennedy Space Center to the mountains of the Pacific Northwest and from the Potomac River to Nicosia, Cypress and even to the extreme arctic conditions of Summit Greenland, Buffalo Hydraulic has the experience to make your most complex high tonnage project a success!

GREENLAND SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH PROJECT
Buffalo Hydraulic has been awarded a contract to design & build a hydraulic jacking system that will be used to raise a scientific research facility 26' utilizing 20 jacking points.
Because of the extreme arctic conditions, the snow & ice pack at this location never melts. After many years of continued accumulation, the research facility needed to be raised 26' to remain above the snow pack.
A custom built Buffalo Hydraulic Uni-lifting System equipped with two 1,500 watt oil heaters provided a controlled synchronous lifting of the building @20 points!
The project site is located several hundred miles north of the Arctic Circle situated atop Greenland's 10,496' ice cap.
At 248 miles to the nearest point of land, this was an extremely remote location subject to severe arctic conditions.
The project was a huge success and was completed safely and one week ahead of schedule. With 24 hours of daylight and temperatures ranging from 0-10 degrees in mid July, this was definitely an extreme location!
This lift has now been recognized as "The Highest Vertical Lift of a Building".

POTOMAC RIVER - WOODROW WILSON BRIDGE PROJECT
The Woodrow Wilson Bridge carries over one million cars per week over the Potomac River on Route I-495. Because of the increased volume and structrual problems with the existing 6 lane bridge, a new 12 lane span is under construction.
Buffalo Hydraulic has been awarded a contract to design and build two custom hydraulic bridge jacking systems that would allow accurate placement of 72 pre-cast concrete sections. These sections are brought into position on a barge and then lifted by a crane for accurate placement on the new bridge piers.
Precise placement of the pre-cast concrete sections needed more timely accuracy than a crane could provide. Two Buffalo Hydraulic custom built gas engine powerunits that provided synchrounous accuracy with the ability to allow the operator the opportunity to overide for independent control allowed the project to be completed safely and ahead of schedule.

1,600 TON GENERATOR PRECISION LIFT
Buffalo Hydraulic has been awarded a contract to design & build a jacking system that would provide 1,600 tons of lift over 36 points to be used in a major overhaul of a hydro generator.
A required level accuracy of .003" over all 36 points of lift provided a real challenge!
Because of the intricacy of this project and an extremely tight schedule, there could be absolutely no delays or interuptions. The generator rebuilding process was completed safely and ahead of schedule!

ROGUE RIVER BRIDGE - CASCADE MOUNTAINS, OREGON
Buffalo Hydraulic has been awarded a contract to design and build a custom bridge jacking system that will provide 24 points of lift.
Core samples determined that some decay was present at the point of contact between the bridge and the road foundation. To prevent a costly, and potentially dangerous safety situation, engineers decided to address the problem by jacking the bridge, removing and installing new pier supports at the entrance to the bridge deck.
Located high above the Rogue River in the Cascade Mountains made this project especially picturesque. Because of the excessive mileage caused by re-routing any bridge traffic, this project had to be completed safely and without delay.
The bridge deck was lifted safely, evenly, and supported. The decaying piers were then removed and replaced. Traffic was then restored as was previously scheduled.
This project is located adjacent to Oregon's jewel.................. Crater Lake National Park in the Cascade Mountains.

NUCLEAR WASTE REMOVAL
Buffalo Hydraulic was awarded a contract to design & build a jacking system that would provide the necessary lifting requirements as well as documenting the weight of nuclear waste for removal and transportation. The total jacking system capacity was 600 tons over six points of lift.
Our jacking system calculated the weight of the containers prior to and after the solid waste was loaded and filled with grout. Once loaded and sealed, the containers were loaded on railcars for removal to a secured site.
With many eyes upon this project, there was absolutely no room for error. The project was completed safely and without any interuptions.

1,200 TON BRIDGE LIFT- NICOSIA, CYPRUS
Buffalo Hydraulic has been awarded a contract to design & build a jacking system that will provide 1,200 tons of lifting force over eight points for the reconstruction of a bridge in Nicosia, Cyprus. Total system control as well as a uniform lifting process would be key to the success of this project.
Pre-cast concrete sections were manufactured in Italy and then shipped to Cyprus. After being placed by cranes on the bridge piers, they were precisely placed with a custom built Buffalo Hydraulic Uni-lift System.
From Mount Olympus to the birthplace of the Greek Goddess Aphrodite, Cyprus is rich with culture & history!
